Day 1: Bangkok

We (Paul) were up before 7 am. He requires less sleep than most. I realized this a while ago. Still, every time he wakes me up, well before I am ready, I can't help but be really annoyed. I mean there is usually SINGING. You understand.

So, by 8 am we were in Chinatown...in search of breakfast. This is Food Cart Country and the choices were innumerable. We settled on a pho stand that had a line of locals. This was a good move. Vietnamese food in Chinatown in Thailand.

We cleared our plate and had full, sort of crabby bellies (*** more sleep!!!), for less than $1. Take that Clippy.

Next, we made our first attempt to navigate Mae Nam Chao Phraya on the passenger boats that run up and down this brown, currently fast flowing, river. Sand bags still abound from the recent flooding, but the water has receded in the central area in which we are staying. After a "mini" disagreement regarding the direction we wanted to go (learning opportunity for one of us who now understands that North is North regardless of how you turn the map) we were cruisin'.

We walked around a fair amount saw some Wats (temples)

Wats...

And yep... More Wats...

They vary in size and complexity and I don't at all believe that if you've seen one you have seen them all...however since we are going to Angkor Wat on Tuesday we decided we are good on Wat exploring in Bangkok.

The rest of the morning...yes it was still morning... We walked and walked street upon street of seemingly endless kiosks selling jeans, dresses, crafts, worms, chickens, and really, just kind of "junk". We didn't really see any tourists, a fact that surprised us both. I was worried about loosing The Husband in the crowd... But well...

After a lunch of spicy spicy curry, we found the tourists, en masse. They seemed to be enjoying some Mojitos and in an effort to fit in.....

We joined the merriment making. Hey dad, life is good here too:)
