We made the decision to trade chair covers for Chiang Mai, appetizers for elephants, Pottery Barn for Phuket, one day of maddness for one month of memories . Why? For starters, we agree on it. AMEN! After being engaged for almost 7 months we were not a couple blissfully planning a wedding. I had never "dreamed" of my perfect day and so was frustratingly underqualified for the role of bride. Nothing felt right for us. Paul wanted small, I wanted intimate (not synonymous). Mr. Finance wanted everything tracked in a spreadsheet, I felt nausous. The dress too? Yes, the dress too. But of course not the Honeymoon! That is TOTALLY separate from the "wedding"? No Meg, the honeymoon too. This went on and on and as I watched as my honeymoon got smaller, shorter, and closer to home. That didn't feel right.
Traveling has always felt right to me. Since the age of 15 I have spent any expendable income to go see things. And so, in preparation for married life, we compromised. When I told Andrea about our plans her response was "He got his small wedding and you got your Big Honeymoon, its perfect!" Cheers to that:)
Our wedding was two fold...Minneapolis City Hall on 11-11-11 with Paul's Brother and my friend Jennie acting as our witnesses. The second part was at the Excellence Riviera Cancun on 11-26-11. 14 people...mainly parents and siblings plus some bonus family:) It would have been great for everyone to be there (and if you are actually reading into paragraph #3 that for sure means you) and we genuinely appreciate the well wishes. We look forward to celebrating with you all in the future!
Tomorrow morning we leave for Thailand and Cambodia and will return after after the New Year. I am so thankful and appreciate that we have the opportunity to go on this adventure together. Our only confirmed activites are flying in and out of Bangkok, Hotel in Siem Reap ( to see Angkor Wat), Dec 20th Pantara Elephant Farm, and December 25th Chiang Mai Half Marathon. The Half Marathon is a preventative measure so we don't need to get me an extra seat on the way home. I can eat Thai. Like a lot of Thai food. And i've still got Mr.Finance and his spreadsheet to answer to...so the $20 entry fee felt like a good investment. The remainder of the time will be a surprise to us and to you as well.
In advance of tomorrow's flight (MSP-Chicago-Seoul-Bangkok) I would like to thank Paul's "travel doctor" for keeping him comfortable and send a huge congrats to Big Cat and Anna on their wedding day.
Till something interesting happens-
Meghan
